Kobi Onyame v The Artist was an art exhibition and collaboration between Kobi Onyame and Many Studios in Glasgow's Gallowgate. The exhibition saw 6 creative artists from different disciplines respond to 1-2 tracks from Kobi Onyame's September 2017 album GOLD. The creative work was on display in Many Studios from 2 March to 1 April 2018. The responding artists were Ashanti Harris (Glasgow, Scotland), Ayo Akinwande (Lagos, Nigeria), Bumi Thomas (London, England), Hakeem Adam (Accra, Ghana), Selorm Jay (Accra, Ghana) & Sulaïman Majali (Glasgow, Scotland). As part of the exhibition, Kobi also hosted a series of conversations as podcasts with musicians and responding artists around the themes of his album.
On Sunday 18 March, we invited Glasgow based artist Ashanti Harris for a conversation on interdisciplinary practice and the themes inspired by the track she responded to for the exhibition, track 11. Kill the Body. Ashanti explored her disciplines of dance and sculpture in her response work which can be seen at the exhibition. Chosen Ones by Kobi Onyame features M.anifest and was also the track that Sulaïman Majali responded to for the exhibition.
